Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to send somebody an email, but didn’t want them reading it? Well, if you have Gmail, the answer to that question is yes. Encrypting your email in Gmail is a pretty simple affair. To start, you’ll need to open your Gmail account on the web and click on “Settings” in the top-right corner. From there, select “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” from the slideout menu on the left side of the screen.
Now that you’re looking at your forwarding settings, scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on “Add a POP3 email account.” A new window will pop up asking for your username and password for that third-party email service (like Yahoo or Outlook). Enter this information, then hit “OK.” Now you can close this window. A new window will open that allows you to set up your forwarding settings. You can either choose to forward all emails automatically, or you can click the “Choose” button and select specific messages to forward. I recommend choosing specific messages if you want to avoid sending duplicates of certain emails (like receipts from online orders).
Once you’ve selected a message, it will appear in the box on the right side of this page. Just hit the check mark above each one when you’re done adding them. When finished, scroll down below these boxes and click on “Save Changes.” This is what your forwarding setup should look like:
And that’s it! Now any email sent to your third-party address will be forwarded directly into your Gmail inbox.
Once you’ve set this up, you can easily use your third-party address for online shopping and other transactions without having to worry about whether or not the merchant has sent you a receipt.
